Thomas Knoble, Pig Art Graphics

So, SolFul Living, or something like it, had been brewing in my head for years. Sometimes I thought it would be  a book – sometimes a newsletter or a speech. Eventually, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I hopped onto YouTube and learned how to make a website – Ta da! SolFul Living was born. But, when I decided to upload people’s SolFul lives, of sorts, I couldn’t figure out how to do it. Enter Tom Knoble, owner of Pig Art Graphics. I called Tom and, kind of sheepishly and hesitantly, shared my vision. Immediately, Tom encouragingly and enthusiastically created a page, the concept of calling these pieces stories and helped to make my vision into a reality. And, that is his special kind of magic. Tom speaks web and he speaks people. He understands ideas and he understands code. It’s a perfect blend!

Meet SolPreneur (I’m still working through these titles) Tom!

What is your business mission? Working with small businesses to affordably have a gorgeous, professional website

Why did you start this business? I have always been involved in design, whether it was graphic design, print design, logo design or website design. I love the aspect of molding and crafting an image and a design to turn it into something that communicates and conveys a feeling and a personality.

What do you love about your business? The best part of my work is the sense of helping someone feel great and confident about their business through having a new website or a new logo so they can feel “complete”.

Who/what is your inspiration? The American Institute of Graphic Arts has incredible Annual Award books that are a pleasure to browse and get inspired. I am inspired when I see a great idea or execution that someone has done and I think what a great piece that is. I am inspired by really cool designs and websites that I come across.

How do you get motivated when you wake up non-motivated? I’m usually always motivated because there is so many resources for learning and getting new ideas from poking around

Best business book, podcast or TedTalk (or something else not mentioned here)? I have a lot go “Google Alerts” that deliver notifications to me and they continually feed my learning.

What helped you to either start or grow your business? I wanted to have my own business because I like the unique challenges that each person or business provide.

What advice do you have for young people just starting to figure out their dreams? Make lots of mistakes and enjoy the mistakes you make. In my mind, once a mistake has been made it is gone forever. But learn from it and move on.

Favorite Person: Always inspired by thinking of what Abraham Lincoln gave to this world. Lincoln walking through Richmond at the end of the war is one of the greatest images you can see.

Favorite Book: Beloved by Toni Morrison

Dream Vacation Spot: We go to Maine each year and it is gorgeous every time
