Steve & Bernie

Steve Irwin was a great guy

This we can all agree on. I took a moment out of my day to see if I could come up with something upon which all Americans could agree.

Now I’m looking for more. Hang on. Let me think.

Jeez that might be it.

I started thinking about why Bernie Sanders Memes are enjoyable to so many, seeming to cross a host of ideological divides.

It occurred to me that if you were anxious about the spectrum of colors and genders represented at the inauguration, you could still appreciate Bernie sitting next to your loved ones at their wedding.

If leadership encouraging unity made you skeptical, Bernie perched on your grandmom’s shoulder made the thought of it possible and even appealing (Appealing? Okay, I might be getting carried away).

And if weeks of death threats and well-dressed (okay, some bared their chests and wore antlers so…) people charging into the Capital made you queasy, well, it was nothing that a little Bernie plopped high atop Mt. Everest couldn’t cure.

So, aside from inserting Bernie into a myriad of settings, what in the actual heck is there to agree on?

I’m still thinking. 🤔

Some of us love guns. Some of us love cooking shows. Some of us love cooking shows and guns. Some of us hate cooking shows guns and, brace yourself folks, the DIY network.

I’m not going to divulge the DIY hater’s name because she’s actually a very nice person and people take their DIY station very seriously. She’s just bad at hammering and cooking and she feels kind of like a failure when she sees people transforming their outhouses into party shacks festooned with fairy lights and ivy.

So, we don’t like the same television shows, books, clothes, weather, and that’s just the beginning.

But most of us appreciate a good Bernie Sanders meme. And, all of us appreciate Steve Irwin. Right?

If we can’t at least agree on an enthusiastic warm-hearted guy who spent his life trying to help animals, maybe there’s no hope for us.

  1. Bah humbug. Wish we had the DIY network though as I was asked to join the Maine cabins fans. And I love Maine cabins more than I love Steve Irwin and Bernie.

    1. Well, I don’t know who that person is who doesn’t like the DIY network – not naming names. 😉 You may love Maine cabins. But, does everyone? Steve is universal. PS I will admit a cabin in Maine sounds really lovely right now. #MaineMemories
